Washable Storage Box Sewing Tutorial

If you have lots of cardboard at home and need pretty storage boxes, then you are at the right place! These storage boxes are surprisingly easy and quick to make.

The best fabric for this project is cotton or other similar non stretch fabric. You’ll need two long strips of contrasting fabrics. The outer fabric measures 33 1/2″ x 10″ (86.5 x 26 cm). And the lining fabric measurements are 33 1/2” x 10 7/8” (86.5 × 29cm).

On the lining piece of fabric you’ll want to mark 4 sections measuring 8 1/2” (22.5cm), 8 1/4 (22cm), 8 1/4” (22cm) and 8 1/2 (22.5cm). It’s important to divide the fabric equally. Scroll down to see the video tutorial for more detailed instructions.

Fold each fabrics in half and
sew with 3/8” (1cm) seam allowance.

Fold the tops of the fabric twice and sew to create a neat hem.

Put the fabrics wrong sides together aligning at the seam and at the bottom. Sew them together at the seam and them 3 more times at the lines where you marked the fabric at the beginning so you’ll get 4 corners and 4 open pockets.

Cut 8 3/4” x 8 3/4” (22.5cm) square of the outer fabric. Pin it to both bottom fabrics at once and sew.

Finally you’ll need 5 pieces of cardboard
8×8” (20,5×20.5cm). Slide the 4 of them in the pockets. For the bottom one: you can use as it is or with a hot glue gun stick a square of matching fabric.
